ABOUT IMET

History & Mission Statement

Innovations in Medical Education and Training (IMET) was founded in 1998 by a group of healthcare professionals who set out to change the dynamics of continuing medical education by instituting a level of quality and efficiency that remains unparalleled. IMET’s mission is to raise the standard of currently available medical education by providing live, hands-on surgical training, in current, clinically relevant topics, for surgeons across multiple specialties. We believe this will promote a continuum of education that reinforces life-long learning, and will build surgical knowledge, confidence and skill, ultimately improving clinical outcomes and the overall quality of healthcare.

Based on a thorough assessment of need, as determined by physician surveys, medical literature, advances in technology, credentialing requirements and the latest medical trends, IMET intentionally designs educational activities with an elite blend of informational lectures, procedural demonstrations and, most importantly, practical hands-on training. IMET workshops offer an unparalleled learning environment in which a realistic surgical setting is created using unembalmed cadavers and training models as enhanced resources for learning. This practical application builds confidence and proficiency by translating the knowledge gained in the classroom into functional skills that can be implemented in the clinical setting.

IMET provides educational opportunities for physicians using a combination of internationally recognized faculty, innovative instructional design, cutting edge technologies, well-defined objectives and a high degree of interaction between faculty and participants. IMET’s Medical Education Advisory Board and core faculty consists of physician leaders in education with well over 400 years of combined academic and clinical experience. We believe the expertise and experience of our faculty, coupled with our innovative approach to education, produces an educational experience that has a lasting impact on physicians’ practice habits and significantly sets us apart from our competition.

Educational Methods

IMET is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide Continuing Medical Education to physicians. As an accredited provider, IMET offers educational activities, which are recognized for innovative teaching methods that integrate a high level of quality. IMET's courses are intentionally designed to meet specific educational goals to assist clinicians in achieving the highest standards of patient care. Course content is developed in response to physician needs, patient demands, and advances in medical technologies, and is formatted to translate the information gained in lectures and demonstrations into practical use through a unique, hands-on learning environment.

Under the direction of IMET's Medical Director, course faculty are selected for their vast clinical and academic experience in their respective fields. After the content of each course is carefully developed by these experts, it is reviewed by IMET's CME Director to ensure scientific validity, fair balance and independence. This combination of expert faculty and cutting-edge, hands-on workshop experience is intended to attract high quality physicians who are serious about enhancing their understanding of and improving their skills related to the evaluation and treatment of associated procedures, in order to provide their patients with optimum care. IMET continually strives to develop significant, meaningful activities that provide improved and innovative solutions, helping physicians meet the challenges they face in staying on top of the latest developments in science, medicine, technology and health.

All IMET activities are planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Policies ACCME and continually prove to be beneficial educational experiences for our participants. If you don't see a course that interests you on this list, please feel free to join our mailing list, and of course, revisit our website often for up-to-date information on current and newly added available courses.

Commercial Support Statement

IMET believes that comprehensive education includes a knowledge and awareness of the medical devices and products necessary to perform the procedures presented at these courses. Several of the technologies discussed in the lecture sessions will be utilized in hands-on lab sessions. The real-life surgical setting of this unique educational experience is made possible, in part, through technology donations from the medical device industry.

These activities may be supported by unrestricted educational grants from commercial sources.   Any grants received will be disclosed to the participants according to the ACCME Standards for Commercial Support. All grants are provided with the understanding that the supporter will not exert any influence on the content or educational development of this activity as a condition of the gift; nor will they take, or have taken any role in the selection of topics, speakers, or audience for this activity. These activities are for educational purposes and not for the purpose of promoting any product.   Promotional activities will not be allowed in the meeting rooms and these activities will be presented with objectivity and balance.
